ModelMania

IPMS Houston welcomes you to Modelmania. Houston’s largest, fine-scale model show. The show is open to the general public and is attended by many from all over the state and region. Each year an average of 600 scale models are entered in the contest.

The 2024 flyer will be available soon. However, there will be updates as planning progresses. So, check back from time to for more information. The 2024 flyer will include specifics for the awards, rules, eligibility requirements, event guidelines, fees, and judging information. However, all of your questions should be answered below and on the Contest Page.

Registration

To enter each contestant must fill out one: Contest Registration Form per person and one Model Entry Form per model. Both are in MS .doc and .pdf format respectively, or if you prefer, we also have the Contest Registration Form and Model Entry Form in fillable .pdf format. Please, see the Contest Page for Categories, Eligibility, Judging and Rules.

You may fill out the forms online and print them out before the contest. You’ll be the envy of everyone who is scrambling for a pencil and trying to get their forms completed at the last minute.

Please note that contest registration ends at 1:00pm and judging begins immediately afterward.

Fees

General  Admission

• Adults:                                   $5.00
• Youths (ages 6-16) $2.00
• Children (age 5 & under):       Free  
• If entered in contest:               Free

Contest Entry

• Adults $10.00 – First Model
  • $2.00 – For Each Additional Model
• Juniors $5.00 – First Model
  • $1.00 – For Each Additional Model
• Beginners $1.00 – Each Model

Location

The show is located just southwest of the heart of Houston at:

Stafford Centre

10505 Cash Road,

Stafford, TX.

Students from the Stafford Band Boosters will be onsite with food for sale — sandwiches, chips, drinks, etc. So, if you don’t want to leave the building, you can grab a bite to eat and get right back to the show.

If you do need a break, there are plenty of nearby restaurants.

Door Prizes

• First ticket included free with a General Admission Ticket or Contest Entry.
• Additional tickets available for a $1 each.
• Winning tickets are drawn with numbers posted to a white board
• Winners are drawn periodically throughout the day, and the winning number is assigned to a prize.
• Prize table is replenished throughout the day, so be sure to buy plenty of tickets, and check the table often.

Raffle Prizes

• These are the larger, more expensive donations or bundles of several smaller prizes.
• Raffle Tickets are $5 Each Or 5 tickets for $20.
• Raffle tickets are entered and drawn per item.
• Put all of your tickets in one bucket or spread them out as you see fit.
• Winners drawn during the awards ceremony, and you must be present to win.

• Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit
• “Best Of” for each division except Divisions 900 & 1000
• Judge’s Grand Award for Best of Show Award
• Theme Award: May the Fourth Be with You and Adversaries
• Ground Pounder Award – Best German WWII Armor or Armor Diorama
• Kilroy was Here Award – Best USA WWII Armor or Armor Diorama
• Year of the Pony – The Best Mustang Award – The iconic Ford sports car not the four-legged critter nor the famous WW II fighter!
• Best P-51 Mustang- The iconic WWII fighter and not the automobile!
• Superb Mecha- Best Gundam, Gunpla or Mecha Fighting Suit
• Phoenix Award – Creating a masterpiece from a vintage aircraft kit.
• Cat of the Year – The Best Grumman Fighter from the Wildcat to the Tomcat.

Theme Awards

“May the Fourth Be with You”

Any contest entry related to the Star Wars Universe.

“Adversaries”

Two models, any genre, of opposing forces.

NOTICE: The Themes are separate from the contest categories. To be considered for a theme award models must be registered specifically in a theme category.

Best of Show

Special Awards and Category Sponsorship

We are most grateful for any contest sponsorship. The contest helps promote the hobby.

Sponsorship makes the contest possible and provides economical advertisement for the sponsor.

We announce the sponsor’s name during the Awards Ceremony for each set of awards.

Additionally the Contest Category Display Cards (located on the contest tables) display your sponsorship, thus advertising YOU! Additionally we can include your logo, phone #, city, and website in addition to your name on the Contest Category Display Cards. Division sponsorship is $50; individual categories within the divisions are $30.

EXHIBITS AND DISPLAYS

Do you have a nice collection or you have models you want to display but don’t want to be in the contest?

Do you have models that have been in Modelmania before but are not eligible but still wish to show?

Does your club have a nice display?

We are happy to provide space for your display as long as we have tables available. There is no fee unless electricity is required. Just contact us ahead of time to make arrangements.

There are many places to stay in the area, and if you are looking for accommodations, we will be glad to help.
